Part 3: Do You Have A Retreat Venue?

I could just end this blog post there, but I’d like to go into a little bit more detail about the lack-of retreat venue.
As we currently operate, we are a retreat planning company, not a retreat venue. Therefore we act as an event planner. A producer of the retreat you want to host. We handle every detail like finding your ideal venue, vendor partners and planning all of the logistics.
Here are the steps we take when we are scoping a retreat venue for you:
What do you have in mind?
Before we begin our venue scoping process, we work with you to see if you have anything in mind. Are you looking for something rustic, luxurious, camp-ish, total Northwoods, boutique hotel setting, etc.
How many people will be attending?
This is a huge part of finding the right venue! A retreat with 5 people is going to look a lot different than one with 50. Knowing a ballpark range of how many attendees you want to host will impact our search.
Is this one day or multi-day?
If this is a multi-day retreat, we will likely need to look for a place that your guests can sleep. We aren’t big on hotel retreats (unless they are awesome boutique hotels), so we typically look for venues or resorts that can accommodate your number of guests. Do you want your guests to have an option of their own bathroom? If so, a “must-have” like this will decrease the available retreat locations.
What time of year?
If you’re planning a retreat for your small business in July in Minnesota, your overall per-person costs are going to increase, because most cabins and retreat locations have a nightly minimum of 7-days during peak summer months. If you’re looking to save on costs, we would recommend a mid-fall or winter retreat! WInter is always a great time to get cozy and think about the vision and goals for your company.
How do we charge for the venue?
For our retreat planning services, we charge as follows:
$149 flat rate for the budget and proposal
Planning & production fees are 30% of your total budget, pre-tax
On-site are additional and vary based on the day
