3 reasons to plan a cozy winter retreat

Every year there is an emphasis from advertising companies, brands, wellness professionals, and many others to create a “new year, new you.” Which is great, I’m all for goal-setting and dreaming up what a fresh year could look like. What I’m not big on is creating unrealistic resolutions that I plan on breaking 5 days into the new year, making myself feel guilty and crappy.

As a small-business owner and entrepreneur, it is important to set goals for myself and for my business. This includes both short-term and long-term goals. It doesn’t mean these goals can’t evolve, it’s only natural that they evolve as you change, the nature of your business changes, and the world changes. In fact, it’s crucial to evolve.

The most important part of setting goals is ensuring they are done:

  1. Realistically

  2. Specifically

  3. Reviewed frequently, so they can be adjusted as needed

Whether these goals are financial, creative, or otherwise; goal-setting is essential.

It’s also not always feasible for January 1st  to roll around, and have all of your goals set. Sometimes people are more energized in the springtime, when the world begins to thaw out and bloom (especially if you’re living in the midwest). Others take comfort in the coziness of winter, feeling energized to create their new vision and goals during these months.

Whatever type of person you are, you really can’t go wrong with a Winter retreat in Minnesota. This is a great time for businesses to take a pause after the busy season is over, and regroup with their teams.

Here are 3 reasons why I love cozy winter retreats

Time to get quiet and recharge.

For many people, November and December are heavy holiday months that can quickly fill up with work parties, family events, gatherings with friends, and other commitments. If you have children there are holiday programs at school. If you work at or own a small business there is a rush to sell, sell, sell. By the time January comes around, it’s time for a reset. It’s time to get quiet, embrace the new year and think about what the upcoming year has to offer.

Creating a shared vision with your team.

If you run a small business, it’s likely that you feel invested in your team, and you hire people to support your mission and values. Taking a weekend of time to get together, review the past year and look forward to the upcoming year and beyond can be crucial to the success of your business.

Creativity is often sparked when you step away from the day-to-day tasks at the office. A retreat is a place where new ideas and energy can be infused into your business.

Connecting, outside the office.

It’s possible to form a relationship with your co-worker during office hours, but it’s likely many of your conversations are task-related, or very surface-level. Stepping away from the office allows your team to create shared experiences, opening them up to conversations that might not happen otherwise.

I have so many co-workers and clients from my past, and the ones I have the strongest connections with to date are those whom I was able to travel with or share an experience with outside of the office.

So, if you’re looking to recharge after the busy holiday season, consider carving out some time to step away from the office with your team. I’d love to help you plan a beautiful retreat experience.

Katie
